This field trip introduces you to the indigenous heart and spirit of Australia, offering a unique opportunity to sit down with elders as they tell the stories of their social and environmental enterprises. We will visit several places:
  • Akeyulerre Inc - a traditional healing centre established by Arrernte elders and community leaders
  • Tjanpi Desert Weavers - Winner second prize in the Moral Fairground Ethical Enterprise Award 2016
Entrepreneurial since its inception, Akeyulerre employs young Arrernte women and fosters intergenerational transmission of cultural and ecological knowledge, whilst providing work experience, and pathways to employment for Arrernte women. We will learn about the elder’s vision and business plan for a ‘Living Culture’ Centre combining the Arrente worldview with western business principles. There will be opportunity to join in a traditional smoking ceremony, used for generations to heal and cleanse.

Recognised as an inspirational, ethical enterprise that achieves positive social and economic results through innovative practices, Tjanpi Desert Weavers offer colourful and creative baskets and crafts created by people living in extremely remote communities. Tjanpi is part of Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council, led by indigenous CEO, Andrea Mason, who was awarded 2016 Australian Business Woman of the Year. This progressive organisation addresses domestic violence and creates opportunities for indigenous people to continue and strengthen connection to their land.

Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to network, share stories with your B Corp colleagues, and at the end of the day, join a facilitated conversation with Global Leadership Foundation Co-founder Gayle Hardie, and Fellow, Sue Gregory, to explore the importance of emotionally healthy leadership within BCorp settings.

Please note that there will be the opportunity to purchase local indigenous products during the field trip.
