Register your spot at

This field trip introduces you to the indigenous heart and spirit of Australia, offering a unique opportunity to sit down with elders as they tell the stories of their social and environmental enterprises. We will visit several places:
  • Akeyulerre Inc - a traditional healing centre established by Arrernte elders and community leaders
  • Tjanpi Desert Weavers - Winner second prize in the Moral Fairground Ethical Enterprise Award 2016
Entrepreneurial since its inception, Akeyulerre employs young Arrernte women and fosters intergenerational transmission of cultural and ecological knowledge, whilst providing work experience, and pathways to employment for Arrernte women. We will learn about the elder’s vision and business plan for a ‘Living Culture’ Centre combining the Arrente worldview with western business principles. There will be opportunity to join in a traditional smoking ceremony, used for generations to heal and cleanse.

Recognised as an inspirational, ethical enterprise that achieves positive social and economic results through innovative practices, Tjanpi Desert Weavers offer colourful and creative baskets and crafts created by people living in extremely remote communities. Tjanpi is part of Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council, led by indigenous CEO, Andrea Mason, who was awarded 2016 Australian Business Woman of the Year. This progressive organisation addresses domestic violence and creates opportunities for indigenous people to continue and strengthen connection to their land.

Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to network, share stories with your B Corp colleagues, and at the end of the day, join a facilitated conversation with Global Leadership Foundation Co-founder Gayle Hardie, and Fellow, Sue Gregory, to explore the importance of emotionally healthy leadership within BCorp settings.

Please note that there will be the opportunity to purchase local indigenous products during the field trip.

Register your spot at
https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/champions-retreat-alice-springs-2017-tickets-tickets-29686204236

The desert landscape is awesome. Here is an opportunity to explore design driven by this landscape. This half-day field trip takes you to visit Desert House, a project completed by Dunn & Hillam Architects. The house is built in the shade of its own fly-roof, and demonstrates an innovative and appropriate response to living in this environment. The house is both a frame for and a refuge from the surrounding landscape.

The design aims to make the best of living in this place. The clients love the desert, they love the vast views, they love the warmth. And when the weather turns foul they wanted to deal with that in the smartest way possible, actively seeking to demonstrate an innovative approach to housing not only in the desert but throughout the world.

You are invited to an afternoon tea in the courtyard of our Desert House on Wednesday 3rd May from 2pm - 4pm. Groups of up to 20 will complete a tour of the house to understand the design philosophy, the environmental systems and how the house responds directly to its landscape and inhabitants. Tea and cake will be served in the courtyard where we hope to begin informal discussions around how we approach our practice, our connection to the environment and, of course, why we are a B Corp.

Dunn & Hillam Architects are a proud and active B Corp. We design appropriate buildings that engage with their site and location. We work across all scales of building with a mix of private, commercial and government clients. Our projects are in cities, regional, rural and remote areas.

Limitations - limited space and limited time (around an hour during lunch on the Thursday). A number of trestle tables will be provided for you to set up a small display. As this will be run over lunch, displays will be mostly left unattended for others to peruse. The marketplace will be a space for attendees to learn from and about each other.
